Kyle Lowry confirmed on Instagram on Thursday that he had decided to stay with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Mark Bartelstein of Priority Sports, who represents Lowry, informed Adrian Wojnarowski that the contract is for one year.
Wojnarowski was informed by sources that Lowry was considering other candidates last week, which led to an increase in talks with Bartelstein and 76ers president Daryl Morey. Thursday, they reached an agreement that would bring the North Philadelphia native and Villanova product back to his hometown Sixers. He will join Joel Embiid, Tyreke Evans, and Paul George on the seasoned bench as they pursue a championship.
Lowry, 38, joined Philadelphia in the spring after being bought out by the Charlotte Hornets, who acquired him in a deal with the Miami Heat for Terry Rozier.
He played a pivotal role in Philadelphia’s rotation in the playoff run and first-round sweep by the New York Knicks, averaging 8.0 points and 4.6 assists in 23 games played for the 76ers during the regular season.
Lowry, a six-time All-Star, spent the better part of two seasons with the Miami Heat before signing with them as a free agency in 2021 after a stellar tenure with the Toronto Raptors, where he helped win the NBA championship in 2019.
With Lowry back in the lineup, the 76ers can finally break their 2001 Eastern Conference finals drought. To acquire George from the Los Angeles Clippers and extend the contract of their native All-Star guard, Maxey, by five more years, they shelled out almost $400 million. Additionally, Morey re-signed Kelly Oubre Jr. and signed Eric Gordon, Caleb Martin, and Andre Drummond as free agents.
