Jordan Matthews’ remarkable career comeback has officially reached a new milestone. The Carolina Panthers are re-signing the veteran wide receiver-turned-tight end to their 53-man roster, according to a report by Adam Schefter on X.
Originally signed to the Panthers’ practice squad on Wednesday, Matthews will now be part of the active roster as the 2024-25 NFL season kicks off.
Since the start of the preseason, Matthews has been determined to carve out a role for himself in Carolina. The 32-year-old made the most of his opportunities during three preseason games, catching seven passes for 68 yards and a touchdown. His strong performance has positioned him as a valuable depth option for the Panthers as they prepare for Week 1.
Injuries to tight ends Tommy Tremble and Ian Thomas during the preseason opened the door for Matthews to step up. He outshone other training camp additions, including Jacob Hollister, Jesper Horsted, and Feleipe Franks, all of whom were released by the team on Tuesday.
With Matthews now officially on the roster, he joins a tight end group that includes Tremble, Thomas, and rookie Ja’Tavion Sanders, providing the Panthers with experience and depth as they head into the new season.
