The New York Giants could not hold on as they lost 20-15 to the Dallas Cowboys in a Thursday night thriller in the NFLโs NFC East division. Other than the narrower failure, the game also impacted the Giants in another way โ the concussion of a highly-rated rookie receiver Malik Nabers.
Young Malik Nabers has been impressing on the Giantsโ offense ground since he joined in Week 1 of the season. A week ago in the game against the Cowboys, Nabers revealed himself as a possible star of the future and caught 12 passes for 115 yards. A few poor outings sank the Giants while his plays were quite a ray of hope for the team especially to flash ability to make crucial plays at crucial times.
Unfortunately, Nabers prematurely had his great night end while trying to come down with his 13th reception of the game. In one of the final plays of the fourth quarter, Jones threw a deep pass from the position of the quarterback. Nabers was in line with the sideline and when receiving the ball, he had to virtually stand on his tips to avoid going out of bounds. In the process, he head-dived into the ground and suffered what appeared to be a concussion.
While Cowboys players rejoiced in the win; Nabers remained on the turf as the Giantsโ medical staff quickly attended to him. Shortly after this, he was declared out of the game though his absence hovered around the achievements of this Giants victory.
After the game, Nabers went to his social account to address fans and teammates alike. He posted a heartfelt message saying, “All good,” followed by a note of gratitude: God bless u, Thanks for all the prayers!! The reason why he is a great motivator for the Giantsโ community in such a mysterious situation is that he has a positive outlook on everything.
Since the injury, Nabers has been listed in the NFL concussion protocol. He needs a comprehensive assessment and a stepwise tennis-playing program to restore his health under this protocol. Since the Giants have a poor 1-3 mark, the chances of Nabers coming back in next weekโs match against the Seattle Seahawks remain in the air. What happened to Nabers? The Giants have 10 days to place him through the protocol hence the need to ensure his health is a subject of utmost concern.
This is a big blow to the Giants especially their strategic plan of attack since Nabers is no longer there. He was used extensively when he was a rookie, and this has helped in giving much-needed ground and flexibility to the receiving democracy. With other major performers such as Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley under pressure to deliver, Nabersโ absence is just another blow to the Giants as they try to heave themselves up the ranks in the NFC East division.
The Giants and their fan are now crossing their fingers for Nabersโ early comeback. Its medical team has since been keen on his situation, with emphasis on his overall health state regardless of when he will return to feature for the team. Nabersโ optimistic outlook will serve him well when it comes to rehabilitation, with people in and around the Giants providing help along the way.
