Spanish rider Jorge Lorenzo won a great race in Austria on Sunday, defeating reigning MotoGP World Champion Marc Marquez to return to the title race with his third win of the season.

Lorenzo finished the race at the Red Bull Circuit in 39 minutes and 40.688 seconds, beating his compatriot and future Honda team-mate by 0.130 seconds to chain Ducati’s third consecutive victory at the Spielberg circuit.

Italian Andrea Dovizioso finished in third place to complete a successful weekend for Ducati. Cal Crutchlow was fourth ahead of Danilo Petrucci.

Four-time champion Marquez, who for the first time this season could not win from pole position, has 201 points after 11 races, ahead of Valentino Rossi (142).

The Italian champion finished the race in sixth place after starting in fourteenth place. Lorenzo (130th) overtook Dovizioso (129th) in the general classification.

The Silverstone circuit will host the next race of the championship on August 26th.
