The rare sight of LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant joining forces this summer has been immortalized in an even rarer collectible. Topps has unveiled a unique 1-of-1 trading card, autographed by all three basketball legends, commemorating their gold-medal triumph at the Paris Olympics. The card features the trio in their Team USA uniforms, adorned in red, white, and blue, and will be sent to one lucky customer who purchases the base version of the card from Topps.
“This card is a tribute to the incredible moment we witnessed at the Olympics, where three of the greatest basketball players in the world came together to bring home the gold,” said Clay Luraschi, Senior Vice President of Products at Topps. “What makes this card so special is that it not only has a regular version but also an autographed version. While there have been many autograph cards in basketball trading card history, this is the first time these three players have signed the same card, making it truly unique.”
The base card was made available at 6:20 p.m. ET on Saturday, shortly after the U.S. men’s basketball team’s gold medal ceremony following their 98-87 victory over France. The purchasing window will close on Tuesday at 6:20 p.m. ET, at which point Topps will randomly select one customer to receive a redemption card for the exclusive triple-autographed version. According to a Topps spokesperson, the winner will receive the redemption card within 10 days of the sale’s close. The base card featuring James, Curry, and Durant is priced at $11.99.
In recent years, cards bearing LeBron James’ signature alongside those of Hall of Famers like Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant have fetched tens of thousands of dollars at auction. “I think this card is easily worth six figures,” said Ken Goldin, founder and CEO of Goldin Auctions. “However, since it’s not a pack-pulled card, its value has a cap.”
This card is part of the Topps Now program, which releases cards directly to consumers as significant moments in sports history unfold, rather than through traditional card sets that typically commemorate a specific sports season. “The Topps Now program has revolutionized the way we do trading cards, thanks to advancements in technology and digital printing,” Luraschi explained. “It allows us to produce these products on demand and deliver them to consumers much faster, making the moments incredibly relevant.”
Launched in 2016, the Topps Now program has quickly become a fan favorite. During Team USA’s run at the Paris Games, Topps also released several other cards, including one celebrating Curry’s 36-point performance in the semifinals against Serbia, another honoring Durant’s achievement as the all-time leading scorer in U.S. Olympic basketball history, and one featuring James and tennis star Coco Gauff serving as America’s flag bearers during the opening ceremony.
