Tom Thibodeau, the coach of the New York Knicks, has agreed to a three-year contract extension that will last until the 2027-28 season, sources said on Wednesday.
Thibodeau, a two-time NBA Coach of the Year, has led the franchise’s turnaround, which includes a No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs after finishing 50-32 the previous season. The Knicks return a squad with increased expectations and hope to contend with the Eastern Conference’s best.
The Knicks have advanced to the conference semifinals in each of the previous two seasons after winning just one playoff series from 2001 and 2022, according to Information. Thibodeau is seventh in franchise history with 175 victories, having made the playoffs in three of his four seasons as coach.
The Knicks were among four clubs last season that ranked in the top ten for offensive and defensive efficiency under Thibodeau. (The remaining three clubs were the Boston Celtics, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Denver Nuggets.)
Adding Mikal Bridges, retaining free agent OG Anunoby, and extending Jalen Brunson and Thibodeau are all part of a successful summer for Knicks president Leon Rose.
