Chiefs Release Isaiah Buggs after Multiple Arrests

On Monday, the Kansas City Chiefs released defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs. Buggs had been arrested many times in Alabama this offseason.

Tuscaloosa, Alabama, police arrested Buggs on June 16 on charges of burglary and domestic violence. He was charged with two misdemeanor charges of second-degree animal cruelty in Tuscaloosa on May 30. Two dogs reportedly under his care—a pit bull and a rottweiler mix—were discovered to be mistreated and emaciated. The pit bull needed to be euthanized.

The domestic violence arrest led to the revocation of Buggs’ bond from the animal cruelty charges. He is presently in the Tuscaloosa County Jail after being arrested last Monday.

Trey Robinson, Buggs’ agent, claims that his client is the subject of an ongoing “subversive campaign” to compel the closure of the hookah bar he runs in Tuscaloosa.

The Pittsburgh Steelers picked 27-year-old Buggs in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL draft after he played two seasons at Alabama. He spent three seasons with the Steelers and two with the Detroit Lions before joining the Chiefs in January as a practice squad member. In February, the Chiefs re-signed Buggs to a future deal.

Several Chiefs players have faced legal issues this summer. Rashee Rice, a wide receiver, was arrested in Dallas in March after being involved in a six-car incident that wounded at least seven people. According to police, Rice was traveling at 119 mph on a highway before causing the incident. Rice is charged with aggravated assault, one case of collision causing severe bodily harm, and six charges of collision involving injury.

Rice is also a suspect in an alleged attack that left a guy wounded in a Dallas nightclub. However, the guy did not want the police to press any charges. The investigation is still underway, Dallas police confirmed last month.

Meanwhile, offensive linemen Chukwuebuka Godrick and Wanya Morris were both arrested in Johnson County, Kansas, last month for misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
