The Green Bay Packers might need to look for a new quarterback following Jordan Loveโs injury during their season opener. One analyst has proposed that the team could secure a replacement via a significant trade.
Love sustained the injury during the final moments of the Packersโ 34-29 defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday in Brazil. After delivering a lengthy pass that advanced the Packers close to midfield, Love was hit and fell awkwardly, resulting in his leg twisting in an unusual way.
The team’s medical staff assisted Love off the field, and backup Malik Willis stepped in for the final two plays. While NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero reported on Saturday that Love seems to have avoided a season-ending ACL tear, his future remains unclear.
Should Love be sidelined for an extended period, CBS Sports reporter Jordan Dajani proposed that the Packers might consider trading for Cleveland Browns backup Jameis Winston as a potential starter.
Jordan Dajani noted, “The Packers would need to trade for Winston, who is currently the Cleveland Browns’ backup behind Deshaun Watson. However, the former No. 1 overall pick would be an ideal replacement for Love. The 30-year-old veteran is not only a natural leader who could inspire the young Packers, but he’s also one of the top backup quarterbacks in the NFL with a strong arm.”
Additionally, veteran free agent Ryan Tannehill has been mentioned as another potential option to step in for Love if he faces a lengthy absence.
