Nick Foles to Announce NFL Retirement During Eagles’ Home Opener

Nick Foles will make his retirement from the NFL official with the Philadelphia Eagles during their home opener on September 16 against the Atlanta Falcons.

“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to retire as a Philadelphia Eagle,” Foles expressed in a statement released by the team. “Philadelphia has always felt like home to me as an NFL player. The City of Brotherly Love is a place I truly love, and it has been an honor to wear the Eagles jersey.”

Folesโ€™ NFL journey spanned 11 seasons with six different teams after being drafted by the Eagles in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft. However, it was during the 2017 season that Foles etched his name into Eaglesโ€™ history, stepping into the starting quarterback role and leading the team to a Super Bowl LII victory over the New England Patriots.

In that iconic game, Foles threw three touchdown passes and even caught one himself in the memorable “Philly Special” play, becoming the first of only two players in Super Bowl history to both throw and receive a touchdown in the same game. His performance earned him Super Bowl MVP honors.

“Nick Foles always carried himself with the utmost class and integrity, embodying what it means to be a Philadelphia Eagle both on and off the field,” said Jeffrey Lurie, the Eagles’ chairman and CEO. “He was the ultimate competitor, an inspiring teammate, a true representative of our city, and, of course, a Super Bowl champion.”

After his historic Super Bowl win, Foles spent one season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, followed by two years with the Chicago Bears. His final NFL appearance came with the Indianapolis Colts on January 1, 2023.

Foles leaves behind an impressive legacy, holding the record for the most passing yards in a single game in Eagles history (471) and sharing the NFL record for most consecutive completions in a single game (25), according to Stats & Information.

What team does Nick Foles play for?

Foles began his career with the Eagles as a third-round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. He ends his career by retiring as an Eagle.
