Men’s NCAA basketball transfer portal tracking for 2024–25: updates

The 2023–24 season of men’s college basketball has wrapped up, yet the journey through the transfer portal continues for numerous players and teams across the nation, having opened its doors in March. Even though we are nearly months past the portal’s opening and over a week since it closed, at least 20 top-100 players from ESPN’s transfer rankings are still uncommitted. As institutions nationwide work on completing their rosters, there remain eight top-20 and 14 top-52 transfers who have yet to find a new home. Additionally, surprises are still possible, as Riley Kugel of Florida showed by withdrawing his commitment to Kansas earlier this week after initially making it in late March.

A significant factor influencing the decisions of these top-rated transfers is the NBA Draft. Several players are engaged in the draft process and have received invitations to the NBA Draft Combine or the G League Elite Camp. With the NBA draft’s withdrawal date set for May 29, these decisions will likely extend into June.

Now is a good time to assess the current state of the transfer portal. What is the status of some of the premier transfers, and what are the goals for some of the 2024–25 season’s most promising teams that are still exploring options in the portal?
